Laurel’s Torment or The Schadenfreude Villanelle
Schadenfreude was always near to Stanley
It was just so desultory and banal
But he could never forget Ollie
That morning, Laurel was shocked by the comedy
But still he remembered the protocol
Schadenfreude was always near to Stanley
Later, Laurel was spooked to a degree
Their act was repetitive, all in all
But he could never forget Ollie
He distracted Stan with physicality
Said it was time to work in a pratfall
Schadenfreude was always near to Stanley
Oliver took a leap most gracefully
Hardy flew high like a toxic theory
But Stan could never forgive Ollie
Laurel nosedived- O vengeful gravity
Stan’s mind echoed dangerously eerie
Schadenfreude was always near to Stanley
For he could never forgive Ollie
On the Beach
Marinated in lotion and slow cooked by the sun
Singeing at lightspeed all afternoon
Neap, neither high nor low
Accompanied by a lone albatross
The beak devours a hermit crab
While the sand absorbs the chaise lounge
And I sink and I sink and sink
As those black orbs observe
