Nick and Rhea felt the pull toward their children before the world collapsed.

Monica screamed upstairs.

They ran until they no longer could. The hallway leading to Carter’s bedroom elongated. Monica stood in her open doorway. Rhea reached her first. Nick stopped when he saw the paint draining out of the walls. The carpet turned to darkness, not the absence of light, but the departure of being.
